Environmental Management System

Overview of the Environmental Management System

Our environmental management system obtained ISO 14001:1996 certification at Hakuto's head office site in 1999. The scope of certification has been gradually expanded and the Isehara Technical Center, Nagoya Branch, Kansai Branch, and their sales offices, including some of our subsidiaries (Hakuto A&L Co., Ltd.), the Chemical Solution Company's Yokkaichi Factory and Research Laboratory and 12 sales offices nationwide are now included in the scope of the EMS, and we have now transitioned to the ISO 14001:2015 version.

Since our business activities are diverse, including electronic equipment, electronic components, semiconductor devices, and industrial chemicals, and since we have different business sites, we have organized our business organization into the following 11 environmental subcommittees, each with its own chairperson and environmental promotion personnel. For significant environmental aspects, we are working to expand positive aspects (opportunities) and mitigate negative aspects (risks). We also consider sales activities of environmentally friendly products among the products we handle as a positive aspect, and promote activities to provide product information and expand sales.

Compliance with Laws and Regulations

Major laws and regulations related to our company and our response to them

Fluorocarbon Emissions Control Act

The products handled by our System Products Company use chlorofluorocarbon gas as a refrigerant, and repair work on such equipment involves the recovery and filling of chlorofluorocarbon gas. For this reason, our Isehara Technical Center, which performs the collection work, is registered with the Kanagawa Prefecture Governor as a Class 1 CFC filling and collection company. For repair work on customer equipment, we also register with local governments throughout Japan, except Okinawa Prefecture, and provide information on equipment that uses CFCs to our customers. For air conditioners and other equipment that uses CFCs which we are required to manage, we prepared inspection lists and conduct and record periodic inspections.

Act on the Rational Use of Energy

In accordance with the Act on the Rational Use of Energy, we monitor energy consumption at all of our facilities as well as cargo transportation as a shipper. Our overall energy consumption in FY2022 was 834K liters of crude oil equivalent.

Other Laws and Regulations

The laws, regulations, ordinances, etc. related to our business activities are as follows. These and other laws are monitored for information on amendments and efforts are made to comply with them. Once again, this year no notifications were issued by relevant authorities and no violations were reported.

  • Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Act
  • Act on the Regulation of Manufacture and Evaluation of Chemical Substances
  • PRTR Law

Compliance with requirements other than laws and regulations

As a trading company specializing in electronic components such as semiconductor devices and electronic components, we comply with our customers' requirements such as "Green Procurement Standards," "Control of Substances Prohibited for Use and Inclusion as Defined by Customers," and "REACH Regulation Compliance: Communication of Information on Substances Contained in Products."

Internal Environmental Audits

Internal environmental audits for FY2022 were conducted between October 3 and November 30.

Audit results

Target divisions: All 11 subcommittees (37 departments including sales offices)

  • Notable activity reports: 0 subcommittees/departments: 0 (FY2021: 0 subcommittees/departments: 0)
  • Serious non-conformities: 0 subcommittee/department: 0 (FY2021: 0 subcommittee/department: 0)
  • Minor non-conformities: 0 subcommittee/department: 0 (FY2021 - 1 subcommittee/department: 1)
  • Improvement proposals: 113 proposals from 37 subcommittees and departments (99 proposals from 37 subcommittees and departments in FY2021)

Each subcommittee and department addressed the matters that were pointed out as suggestions for improvement.

Internal audits are an important process to check the effectiveness and conformity of our EMS, and at the same time, they serve to confirm the status of compliance with customer requirements (e.g., green procurement compliance, provision of RoHS and REACH information, etc.).

We will continue to strengthen our internal audits to ensure continuous improvement of our EMS.
